SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 427
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  recognizing the Mexia High School Lady Cats, who won the 2013
  Class 3A girls' basketball state title; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Lady Cats were victorious in their recent
  appearance at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin, defeating the
  Kennedale Wildcats by a score of 69-62; and
 
         WHEREAS, In a thrilling matchup, the two teams were in
  fierce contention from the outset, alternating leads and keeping
  spectators on the edges of their seats; the game featured six
  tied scores and 12 lead changes; and
 
         WHEREAS, Throughout the school year, the young athletes
  from both teams demonstrated great talent and perseverance, and
  they concluded the season in grand style, with a classic
  barnburner match; Lady Cat Na'Teshia Owens was named Most
  Valuable Player, scoring a total of 23 points; and
 
         WHEREAS, This suspenseful game marked the first state
  championship for the Lady Cats; the citizens of Mexia are proud
  of the members of this outstanding team for their hard work,
  their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Mexia Lady Cats on their
  successful season and congratulate them on winning the girls'
  Class 3A state basketball championship; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the team as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
