SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 442

WHEREAS, The Texas Department of Transportation has honored Valerie Covey with its prestigious Road Hand Award; and

WHEREAS, Created by former State Highway Engineer Luther DeBerry in 1973, the Road Hand Award honors those individuals who champion transportation projects in their area; recipients of this honor, the highest awarded by the department, have their names inscribed on the Road Hand Hall of Honor plaque; and

WHEREAS, Ms. Covey serves as Williamson County commissioner of Precinct 3, and in this position she has played a key role in transportation planning for her quickly growing region; she has lent her talents to important initiatives such as shaping the Texas Department of Transportation modernization project and changing the right-of-way acquisition and utility accommodation policy; moreover, she has worked on agency environmental rules and led efforts to make customer response and project development faster and more efficient; and

WHEREAS, Throughout her notable career, Valerie Covey has distinguished herself as an able leader and dedicated public servant, and she may indeed reflect with pride on her many accomplishments; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby congratulate Williamson County commissioner Valerie Covey on her receipt of the Road Hand Award from the Texas Department of Transportation and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be prepared for Commissioner Covey as an expression of high regard by the Texas Senate.
