SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 450
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  John Alfred Fleming, Jr.
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
  citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of John Alfred Fleming,
  Jr., who died February 19, 2013, at the age of 83; and
         WHEREAS, John Fleming was born April 2, 1929, in
  Holdenville, Oklahoma; he grew up in Holdenville and Oklahoma
  City and left school at the age of 17 to enlist in the United
  States Army; and
         WHEREAS, He served with distinction in the army for 25
  years; his military career included service in the Korean War and
  two tours of duty in Vietnam; he earned numerous commendations
  and medals for his service and retired in 1971 with the rank of
  sergeant first class; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming married Earlene Pollard in 1953, and
  the couple had three children; he married Rosia Miller on
  December 14, 1963, and they raised three children together and
  enjoyed 49 years of marriage; he was blessed with nine
  grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming worked with the Office of the
  Comptroller of Public Accounts for 10 years; he served as
  assistant director of the Support Services Division and worked
  closely with Comptroller Bob Bullock; and
         WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his
  daily life, he was a faithful member of Mount Sinai Missionary
  Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming maintained an avid interest in
  politics and current events throughout his life and was a source of
  strength and support to his large and loving extended family; and
         WHEREAS, Noted for his forthrightness, courage, and
  compassion, he gave generously to others, and his determination
  and his wise counsel and encouragement will not be forgotten; and
         WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and
  grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished
  forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of John Alfred Fleming, Jr.; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
  so in memory of John Alfred Fleming, Jr.
