SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 450

John Alfred Fleming, Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of John Alfred Fleming, |
|
Jr., who died February 19, 2013, at the age of 83; and |
|
WHEREAS, John Fleming was born April 2, 1929, in |
|
Holdenville, Oklahoma; he grew up in Holdenville and Oklahoma |
|
City and left school at the age of 17 to enlist in the United |
|
States Army; and |
|
WHEREAS, He served with distinction in the army for 25 |
|
years; his military career included service in the Korean War and |
|
two tours of duty in Vietnam; he earned numerous commendations |
|
and medals for his service and retired in 1971 with the rank of |
|
sergeant first class; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming married Earlene Pollard in 1953, and |
|
the couple had three children; he married Rosia Miller on |
|
December 14, 1963, and they raised three children together and |
|
enjoyed 49 years of marriage; he was blessed with nine |
|
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming worked with the Office of the |
|
Comptroller of Public Accounts for 10 years; he served as |
|
assistant director of the Support Services Division and worked |
|
closely with Comptroller Bob Bullock; and |
|
WHEREAS, A devout Christian who practiced his faith in his |
|
daily life, he was a faithful member of Mount Sinai Missionary |
|
Baptist Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Fleming maintained an avid interest in |
|
politics and current events throughout his life and was a source of |
|
strength and support to his large and loving extended family; and |
|
WHEREAS, Noted for his forthrightness, courage, and |
|
compassion, he gave generously to others, and his determination |
|
and his wise counsel and encouragement will not be forgotten; and |
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished |
|
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of John Alfred Fleming, Jr.; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the |
|
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do |
|
so in memory of John Alfred Fleming, Jr. |
