SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 471
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Larry Gale Nelson
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and pays
  tribute to the life of firefighter Larry Gale Nelson, who died in
  the line of duty August 12, 2011; and
         WHEREAS, This courageous citizen was an oil industry
  consultant who also made time to work for the Val Verde County
  Volunteer Fire and Rescue team; his desire to serve and protect
  his community illustrated the quality of his character; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Nelson was much admired and beloved by his
  fellow firefighters as a man of integrity, strength, and
  generosity of spirit; and
         WHEREAS, For his courage and his willingness to go above
  and beyond the call of duty, Mr. Nelson was named Firefighter of
  the Year in 2007; his peers admired him for his warmth and wit and
  for his profound commitment to helping others; and
         WHEREAS, Firefighters are a unique type of public servant,
  who regularly put themselves in harm's way; they are the men and
  women who are willing to run bravely into danger, knowing each
  time that they may make the ultimate sacrifice; Mr. Nelson was
  one of those heroic souls; he will be deeply missed by his family
  and friends, and he leaves them with memories that will long be
  cherished; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
  bereaved family of Larry Gale Nelson; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Mr. Nelson.
