SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 494
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Julia "Judy" Ewell on the grand occasion of her 90th
  birthday; and
 
         WHEREAS, This exemplary lady is well known for her charm
  and generosity of spirit, and she is a revered resident of our
  state; and
 
         WHEREAS, Judy Ewell was born March 8, 1923, in Ellis
  County, the second-youngest of nine children born to Moravian
  immigrants Annie Buranik and John Horak; she learned the value of
  hard work at an early age by working with her family in the cotton
  fields; and
 
         WHEREAS, She married Robert H. Ewell in 1947, and the
  couple enjoyed more than 50 years of marriage together; they
  raised three children, Robert, Cynthia, and John, and were
  blessed with five grandchildren and a great-grandchild; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Ewell is widely known for her exceptional
  cooking and baking skills and is justifiably famous for her
  chocolate chip cookies and apple strudel; and
 
         WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community,
  she is noted for her courage, her enjoyment of caring for others,
  and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now,
  therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to Julia Ewell on her
  90th birthday; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
