SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 511
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Brigadier General Karen S. Rankin, who has been |
|
|
selected for induction into the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame |
|
|
for her outstanding military service and her work on behalf of |
|
|
our nation's veterans; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame honors those |
|
|
women who have contributed significantly to the San Antonio |
|
|
community and the Bexar County region through their |
|
|
accomplishments in their profession or field of service; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A pioneering champion of women's rights and roles |
|
|
in the military, General Rankin served in the United States Air |
|
|
Force for 31 years; during a highly laudable career, she served |
|
|
as executive assistant to the secretary of the air force, as well |
|
|
as the commander of two air force training wings; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Since her retirement in 1998, she has continued to |
|
|
serve the military through her work as a member and chair of the |
|
|
Texas Veterans Commission, and in 2011, she was appointed to the |
|
|
13-member Texas Military Preparedness Commission, which helps to |
|
|
preserve and expand Texas' military installations and their |
|
|
missions; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, General Rankin is highly respected for her |
|
|
dedication to her work on behalf of veterans, her successful |
|
|
military career, and her current participation in the protection |
|
|
of the vital military installations in our state; now, therefore, |
|
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby commend Brigadier General Karen S. |
|
|
Rankin for her exceptional achievements and extend |
|
|
congratulations to her on her induction into the San Antonio |
|
|
Women's Hall of Fame; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
