SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 514

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Martin's Mill Lady Mustangs basketball team, which recently won the 2013 Class 1A Division I state championship title; and

WHEREAS, The Lady Mustangs won their third state championship in the last eight years by defeating Smyer High School by a score of 49-46 in a game that saw them overcome a 10-point deficit with less than four minutes remaining; and

WHEREAS, These young athletes have demonstrated great talent and perseverance over the course of the year, ending the season with a record of 34-5; team members can take great pride in their outstanding performance; and

WHEREAS, Under the superior leadership and expertise of head coach Doug Barncastle, the team developed exceptional teamwork and discipline; he has led the Lady Mustangs to a Class 1A record of eight consecutive trips to the state tournament; and

WHEREAS, Martin's Mill High School and the people of Martin's Mill are proud of the Lady Mustangs for their hard work, their impressive skills, and their fine sportsmanship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend the Martin's Mill High School Lady Mustangs on their successful season and extend congratulations to team members on winning the 2013 Class 1A Division I girls' basketball state championship title; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
