SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 532
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize April of 2013 as Autism Awareness Month; and
 
         WHEREAS, Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that
  affects approximately 67 million people globally; it is the
  fastest-growing serious developmental disability in the world;
  more children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with
  diabetes, pediatric cancer, and AIDS combined; and
 
         WHEREAS, Researchers and medical experts have not yet
  determined the causes of autism, but early diagnosis and
  intervention are of paramount importance to its effective
  treatment; and
 
         WHEREAS, Once autism is diagnosed, behavioral intervention
  can dramatically improve the outcomes for children with autism
  spectrum disorders; and
 
         WHEREAS, Autism Awareness Month provides an important
  opportunity for sharing information about this often
  misunderstood condition and emphasizing the benefits of early
  diagnosis; individuals who have autism are valuable members of
  society, and this month of activities, special events, and
  outreach programs also celebrates their unique talents and
  skills; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby recognize April as Autism Awareness
  Month; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of Autism Awareness Month.
