SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 566
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize May 2, 2013, as Missouri City Day at the Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Located along the Brazos River with fertile green |
|
|
prairies, Missouri City was first coined the "land of genial |
|
|
sunshine and eternal summer" in 1890 by R. M. Cash and L. E. |
|
|
Luckle when advertising to residents in Saint Louis, Missouri; |
|
|
the city was officially registered in Texas in 1894 and, with a |
|
|
population of 604, the "Show Me City" was incorporated under the |
|
|
general laws of the State of Texas in 1956; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Today, Missouri City is a magnificent home-ruled |
|
|
community with an estimated population of 70,000; with a |
|
|
first-class reputation, the city has been selected as one of the |
|
|
Top 100 Best Places to Live in America, as one of the Safest |
|
|
Cities in America, as the Most Diverse City in the Houston Area, |
|
|
and as one of the nation's Top 10 Most Affordable Cities for |
|
|
Homebuyers in 2012; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Missouri City provides many recreational |
|
|
alternatives to its residents through its beautiful parks, the |
|
|
Recreation and Tennis Center, and the Quail Valley Golf Course, |
|
|
which is a city-owned award-winning golf course with 400 acres |
|
|
and 36 holes and was recently named the number one Best Value |
|
|
Under $50; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Missouri City is conveniently located only |
|
|
minutes from downtown Houston and all of the amenities the |
|
|
metropolitan area has to offer while maintaining its small town |
|
|
appeal for residents; it is close to major freeways, rail lines, |
|
|
the Port of Houston, and Bush and Hobby Airports; mobility is |
|
|
improved for commuters through two Metro Park and Ride locations; |
|
|
Missouri City's strategic location links its businesses with |
|
|
customers around the nation; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the residents of Missouri City on |
|
|
preserving the amenities of their town and guiding its growth |
|
|
with care and extend best wishes to all on Missouri City Day at |
|
|
the Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this occasion. |
