SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 589
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in
  welcoming Zafer Caglayan, the minister of economy for the
  Republic of Turkey, on the occasion of his visit to Texas; and
 
         WHEREAS, The honorable minister represents an esteemed
  economic partner and a highly valued friendship between the State
  of Texas and the Republic of Turkey; these two allies are
  committed to a continuation of this mutually beneficial
  relationship; and
 
         WHEREAS, The Republic of Turkey is a vital player in global
  commerce and has the 16th-largest economy in the world; and
 
         WHEREAS, Texas is home to some 50,000 Turkish Americans and
  is host to Turkish American associations such as the Turquoise
  Council of Americans and Eurasians, the Raindrop Foundation, and
  the Texas Turkish American Chamber of Commerce; and
 
         WHEREAS, The citizens of Texas share a desire to promote
  trade, investment, and friendship between the people of Turkey and
  those of this state; it is then with great honor that residents and
  elected representatives of the State of Texas host this esteemed
  guest from the Republic of Turkey; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby welcome Turkish minister of economy
  Zafer Caglayan on the occasion of his visit to the State of Texas;
  and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  Minister Caglayan as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
