SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 603
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Carlos Walker and Deterrius Boose, whose determination
and belief in the value of education have turned around a young
man's life and put him on the path to success; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Walker is the principal at Dunbar High
School in Fort Worth, where Deterrius Boose is a 19-year-old
  senior; and
WHEREAS, Deterrius became a student at Dunbar High School
after having dropped out of school and being involved in gang
activities in Dallas; recognizing the need to turn his life
around after the death of his grandmother, he approached Mr.
Walker and asked for the chance to enroll in school; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Walker gave Deterrius permission to attend
despite reservations about his ability to follow through on this
important undertaking; Deterrius rewarded Mr. Walker for the
faith he showed in him by becoming an excellent student and
  qualifying for early graduation; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Walker has been honored by the Texas Caucus of
Black School Board Members as Administrator of the Year, and
Deterrius has been accepted at Navarro College, where he will
study kinesiology; their impressive accomplishments are a
reflection of their foresight, determination, and commitment to
  excellence; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Carlos Walker and Deterrius Boose
for their exemplary achievements and extend to them best wishes
for continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
