SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 609
WHEREAS, A 75th anniversary marks a lifetime of mutual |
devotion and shared experiences, and J. B. and Edna Snead of |
Austin celebrated this joyous milestone in their marriage on |
March 21, 2013; and |
WHEREAS, When J. B. Snead, Jr., met the former Edna Redwine |
at County Line School, he asked her older brother for permission |

to escort her home; three years later, in 1938, the couple were |
joined in matrimony in Fort Sumner, New Mexico; and |
WHEREAS, The newlyweds began their married life during the |
Great Depression, when Mr. Snead made 15 cents an hour working 10 |
hours a day, 6 days a week, while working his own 40-acre farm at |
the same time; Mrs. Snead coped with a home that lacked |
electricity and indoor plumbing; and |
WHEREAS, Longtime residents of Lubbock, Mr. and Mrs. Snead |
are now pillars of the Austin community, where they enjoy an |
ever-widening circle of friends; and |

they have been further blessed with 10 grandchildren, 22 |
great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; among her |
loved ones, Mrs. Snead is especially known for her Sunday |
sandwiches, her frozen peaches, and her famous "hissing in the |
pit" story; Mr. Snead takes pleasure in spending time with his |
great-great-grandchildren, listening to their stories as he |
drives them in his scooter, and even though he proclaims that he |
is "blind in one eye and can't see out the other," he still regards |
his bride with the same joy and admiration as he did on the day of |
their wedding, three quarters of a century ago; and |
WHEREAS, While much has changed in the world over the past |
75 years, this devoted husband and wife have remained constant in |
their commitment to each other, and the strength of their love |
has enabled them to meet life's challenges and opportunities with |
grace and optimism; now, therefore, be it |
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
