SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 622
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the public-spirited citizens from across the Lone Star |
|
|
State who are gathering in Austin on April 9, 2013, to advocate |
|
|
for women and their families during Blue Ribbon Lobby Day at the |
|
|
Capitol; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, Organized by progressive and Democratic women and |
|
|
leaders from around the state, Blue Ribbon Lobby Day was created |
|
|
to bring attention to issues important to Texan women, including |
|
|
public education, health care, and economic well-being; and |
| |
|
|
WHEREAS, During this day of action, progressive and |
|
|
Democratic women are meeting with state legislators to discuss |
|
|
the message that women are integral to the economic success of |
|
|
this state and that the state's continued prosperity depends on |
|
|
ensuring that women have equal opportunities and that their |
|
|
rights are equally protected; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, Those who attend the day's events are wearing blue |
|
|
to signify their support of the cause and to raise awareness of a |
|
|
number of disheartening statistics, including that Texas has the |
|
|
highest percentage of uninsured women in the country and that |
|
|
more than one-fourth of Texas children live in poverty, totaling |
|
|
some 1.7 million; and |

|
|
WHEREAS, Blue Ribbon Lobby Day is helping to raise the |
|
|
voices of women and their families and call attention to their |
|
|
concerns, and the event stands as a testament to the positive |
|
|
difference that engaged Texas women can make; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby recognize April 9, 2013, as Blue Ribbon Lobby |
|
|
Day at the Capitol and extend a warm welcome to the advocates who |
|
|
are visiting today; and, be it further |
| |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of Blue Ribbon Lobby Day. |
