  In Memory
  of
  Scott Hamilton Burgess
 
         WHEREAS, Family and friends of United States Army Staff
  Sergeant Scott Hamilton Burgess of Franklin suffered an
  immeasurable loss when he died in Afghanistan on April 4, 2011,
  at the age of 32; and
         WHEREAS, This valiant Texan was born on October 24, 1978,
  in Hampton, Virginia, to Sam and Deb Burgess; he moved to
  Franklin with his family when he was still very young, and he grew
  up there, attending Franklin public schools and spending summers
  at his grandfather's farm a bit further west; and
         WHEREAS, Sergeant Burgess joined the army in 2002 and served
  a tour of duty in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom; attached to
  the 1st Battalion, 84th Field Artillery Regiment, 107th Brigade
  Combat Team, he was providing security for a meeting of United
  States and Afghan military officials at the time of his death;
  Sergeant Burgess was posthumously awarded a number of honors, among
  them the Purple Heart and the Combat Action Badge; and
         WHEREAS, Scott Burgess married Jennifer Juhl in 1999 and
  the couple became the proud parents of two children, Haley and
  Amy; at the time of his passing, he was also survived by his
  parents, Sam and Deb Burgess, his grandmothers, Claire Burgess
  and Ruby Hamilton McMoran, his sister, Kristy Green, and her
  husband, Michael, his brothers, Sam Burgess and his wife,
  Mellonie, Brad Burgess and his wife, Lynn, and Tony Burgess and
  his wife, Sabrina, his mother-in-law, Marsha Juhl, his
  sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Emily and Jeffery Tucker, his
  father-in-law, Chris Juhl, and his wife, Jennifer; and
         WHEREAS, Exemplifying the highest ideals of the United
  States armed forces, Scott Burgess inspired others with his
  fortitude and courage, and although his passing has left a void
  in the lives of those who loved him, they will forever carry his
  memory close to their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the life of United States
  Army Staff Sergeant Scott Hamilton Burgess.
