SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 704
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the Dallas Independent School District in celebrating the
  naming of the Pinkie M. King Gardner Auditorium at
  Wilmer-Hutchins High School; and
         WHEREAS, Pinkie King Gardner is a lifelong resident of the
  Hutchins community; she is the sole living member of the 1939
  class that graduated from the Wilmer-Hutchins Colored High
  School; her class was the first and only to graduate from the
  school, which burned down later in the year; and
         WHEREAS, Pinkie Gardner served the community for nearly 50
  years as a nurse with the Dallas County Hospital System and the
  Dallas Veterans Administration Hospital; she is a member of the
  Retired Nursing Association of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Mrs. Gardner is active in numerous community
  organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club in Oak Cliff,
  People Empowering People, and the Hutchins Lions Club; she has
  served as a Dallas County election judge and has been named a
  Yellow Rose of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Throughout her life, she has been committed to
  advocating for education and has had a profound influence on her
  community; it is truly fitting that her many contributions be
  recognized by naming the high school auditorium in her honor;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Pinkie M. King Gardner on her many
  contributions to the community and extend best wishes to the
  administration, students, faculty, and staff of Wilmer-Hutchins
  High School for a memorable ceremony naming the auditorium in her
  honor; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this special occasion.
