SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 729
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize Michael Strahan, who has been awarded an Honorary |
|
|
Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Southern University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Michael Strahan is a native of Houston and an |
|
|
alumnus of Texas Southern University; he rose to prominence as a |
|
|
football player for the university and earned All-America honors as |
|
|
a senior, when he set a school record for quarterback sacks; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Strahan enjoyed a stellar 15-year career with |
|
|
the New York Giants and helped lead the team to a victory against |
|
|
the undefeated New England Patriots in the 2007 Super Bowl; he |
|
|
was named to the Pro Bowl seven times and set a National Football |
|
|
League record with 22.5 quarterback sacks in one season; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After his football career, he entered the field of |
|
|
broadcasting as cohost of Fox NFL Sunday; he appeared on several |
|
|
other programs, including Backyard Stadiums and Brothers, before |
|
|
being named cohost of the Emmy-winning morning talk show now |
|
|
named LIVE with Kelly and Michael, where his charisma and ease |
|
|
before the camera have made him an audience favorite; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, In addition to his broadcasting work, Mr. Strahan |
|
|
is active in numerous charitable and philanthropic |
|
|
organizations, including Saint Jude Children's Hospital, Walter |
|
|
Reed Army Medical Center, the Fresh Air Fund, and the Newark |
|
|
Mentoring Movement; he is truly deserving of recognition for his |
|
|
many contributions to his community and his profession; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend Michael Strahan on his outstanding |
|
|
achievements and extend congratulations to him on receiving an |
|
|
Honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from Texas Southern |
|
|
University; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
