SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 742

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Manuel Blanco, who is retiring from Laredo Community College after 55 years of exceptional service; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Blanco has taught English composition and literature to multiple generations of Laredo residents; this gifted educator has had a profound influence in the lives of his students and has given generously of his time and talent to help them with their work; he has also instilled in them a sense of pride and a lifelong love of learning; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Blanco was a pioneer in the use of computers and technology and led the way in developing computer-assisted classes and online distance education courses at the college; he also created a computerized program to teach grammar; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Blanco served for 10 years as chair of the English Department, and he was instrumental in expanding the college's developmental courses for students in need of remedial instruction; in 2010, the Manuel Blanco Writing Center opened in his honor at the college's Fort McIntosh campus; and

WHEREAS, Throughout his long and productive career, he has carried out his duties with integrity and fairness, and through his leadership, his achievements, and his dedication, he has contributed immeasurably to Laredo Community College; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Manuel Blanco on his commitment to his students and his profession and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
