SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 743

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Mercy Ministries of Laredo on the occasion of its 10th anniversary; and

WHEREAS, Mercy Ministries of Laredo has throughout its existence continued the tradition of service established by the Sisters of Mercy, who for nearly 120 years have had a profound impact on Laredo through their work in creating the city's acute and preventive care systems; and

WHEREAS, The Sisters of Mercy first came to Laredo in 1894; through their efforts with such ministries as the Mercy Clinic and Casa de Misericordia, they have focused extensive efforts on educating area citizens on the benefits of preventive care; and

WHEREAS, The 10th anniversary will be commemorated with a variety of events throughout the year, culminating with the Mercy McAuley Gala on November 7, 2013; as part of the celebration, a new logo was created, in the form of a more colorful and modern depiction of the Mercy Cross; and

WHEREAS, Mercy Ministries of Laredo has played a vital role in the life of the city, and it is truly fitting that this worthy organization be recognized as it achieves this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby commend Mercy Ministries of Laredo on its many contributions to the community and extend to its staff and volunteers best wishes for a memorable 10th anniversary celebration; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this exemplary organization as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
