SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 764
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Villager newspaper on the occasion of its 40th
  anniversary, which is being celebrated May 11, 2013; and
         WHEREAS, The Villager newspaper is a weekly community
  service publication of the Black Registry Publishing Company;
  the company was founded in 1969 by T. L. Wyatt to create a
  classified directory of African American-owned businesses in
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Wyatt soon recognized the need for a newspaper
  that could report the latest in positive news about the African
  American community; thus in 1973, he established the Villager
  newspaper; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Bishop College, Mr. Wyatt has been
  actively involved in the Austin community for more than 40 years;
  he was a founding member of the Capital City Chamber of Commerce
  and was the first African American to join the Austin Jaycees; he
  has served as president of the Austin Centex Chapter of the
  National Business League and was a member of the city's Private
  Industry Council; he currently sits on the board of the Retired
  Senior Volunteer Program; and
         WHEREAS, The Villager newspaper has been a mainstay in
  Austin's African American community since its inception and has
  experienced continuous growth in the Austin market; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend T. L. Wyatt on his contributions to
  the community as publisher and editor of the Villager newspaper
  and extend best wishes to all associated with the newspaper, for
  a memorable 40th anniversary celebration; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the newspaper as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
