SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 770
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join Texans across the state in observing April 30, 2013, as |
|
|
Autism Awareness Day at the State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Autism spectrum disorders affect people from all |
|
|
walks of life, regardless of race, religion, socioeconomic |
|
|
status, or geography; autism has been identified by the Centers |
|
|
for Disease Control and Prevention as a national public health |
|
|
crisis, and its cause and cure remain unknown; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Many people in this state and across the nation |
|
|
are working to provide support to those affected by autism and to |
|
|
help to find treatments and a cure; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Autism Society of America is the nation's |
|
|
oldest and largest grassroots organization serving those |
|
|
affected by autism spectrum disorders; its 107 local and state |
|
|
affiliates help more than a million people each year by providing |
|
|
the latest information, referral sources, and lifespan support |
|
|
and assistance; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Autism Speaks was founded in 2005 and has grown to |
|
|
become the world's leading autism science and advocacy |
|
|
organization; dedicated to funding research on the causes, |
|
|
prevention, and treatment of autism and to finding a cure, this |
|
|
exceptional organization is also an invaluable advocate for the |
|
|
needs of individuals with autism and their families; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Each person with an autism spectrum disorder |
|
|
should be provided every opportunity to have the highest possible |
|
|
quality of life, and it is truly fitting that a day be set aside |
|
|
to raise awareness about this crucial issue; now, therefore, be |
|
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the efforts of all who assist or |
|
|
advocate for persons with autism spectrum disorders and |
|
|
designate April 30, 2013, as Autism Awareness Day at the State |
|
|
Capitol; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this special day. |
