SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 801
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  honor United States Air Force veteran Placido Salazar, who was
  awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Valor and the Purple Heart and
  has been recognized in a ceremony in his hometown of La Villa,
  Texas; and
         WHEREAS, This exemplary war hero received the medals due to
  his heroism in defense of the Bien Hoa Air Base in the Republic of
  Vietnam during the Vietnam War; on April 27, 2013, he was honored
  by his fellow Texans; and
         WHEREAS, On the night of August 21, 1965, Airman First
  Class Salazar acted selflessly when the air base was bombarded;
  while he was on duty at the detachment command post, Airman
  Salazar ran past the safety of the bunker to assist two senior
  officers who were still in their mobile quarters and heavily
  sedated, and he remained in the target area until the officers
  were moved to safety; and
         WHEREAS, Still under fire, Airman Salazar then proceeded
  to the command post, which contained highly classified
  documents, and guarded it against entry; during the attack,
  approximately 300 enemy shells exploded and 29 personnel,
  including Airman Salazar, were wounded and two airmen were
  killed; and
         WHEREAS, For his uncommon valor, the Texas veteran has
  received a prestigious honor bestowed by the United States
  military; his unwavering dedication to duty and his loyalty to
  his fellow airmen are indeed praiseworthy, and he is highly
  deserving of recognition; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby pay tribute to retired United States Air
  Force veteran Placido Salazar, who was awarded the Purple Heart
  and who earned the Bronze Star Medal with Valor for his heroism
  and extend to him sincere appreciation for his courageous
  actions; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  Placido Salazar as an expression of highest esteem from the Texas
  Senate.
