SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 802
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
  recognize the San Antonio Alamo Chapter of the 1st Marine
  Division Association for its ongoing commitment to promoting and
  preserving the memory of its veterans; and
         WHEREAS, The 1st Marine Division Association was founded
  in 1947 to foster, encourage, and perpetuate public awareness of
  the selfless devotion of all those who have campaigned under the
  battle colors of the 1st Marine Division; and
         WHEREAS, The San Antonio Alamo Chapter has since its
  inception worked to reinforce these goals; chartered in 1988, it
  has also striven to preserve the history and the memories of 1st
  Marine Division personnel, to safeguard the principles of
  democracy, to promote and cultivate social interaction among its
  veterans, and to sponsor regular meetings and gatherings for its
  members; and
         WHEREAS, The chapter also values the pursuit of higher
  education, and it supports several scholarship programs,
  including the 1st Marine Division Association Scholarship Fund,
  the General O. P. Smith Scholarship, and the Alamo Detachment
  315, San Antonio Marine Corps League Scholarship program; and
         WHEREAS, Long revered for their exceptional courage in the
  face of danger and for their unwavering loyalty to one another in
  battle, members of the United States Marine Corps embody the
  qualities of patriotism, integrity, and perseverance; the 1st
  Marine Division Association is committed to ensuring that the
  brave actions of this band of brothers is cherished and
  celebrated by its veterans and forever revered by the citizens of
  this country; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the San Antonio Alamo Chapter of the
  1st Marine Division Association for its ongoing dedication to
  preserving the memory and the traditions of its members; and, be
  it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of this outstanding organization.
