SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 804
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  welcome the residents of south Dallas County, who are gathering
  in Austin on May 1, 2013, to celebrate DeSoto Independent School
  District Day at the State Capitol; and
         WHEREAS, DeSoto Independent School District serves more
  than 9,000 students in the communities of DeSoto, Glenn Heights,
  and Ovilla and encompasses seven elementary schools, three
  middle schools, one high school, a freshman campus, and an
  alternative education program; and
         WHEREAS, Superintendent Dr. David Harris heads a staff of
  accomplished administrators, teachers, and support personnel who
  are deeply committed to the success of the area's young people;
  in the 2011-2012 school year alone, their work was honored with
  20 Gold Performance Acknowledgments by the Texas Education
  Agency; and
         WHEREAS, Looking to the future, the district has recently
  expanded its College and Career Academies and developed the
  Collegiate Magnet Program to offer associate degrees as well as
  college and industry certifications; and
         WHEREAS, DeSoto Independent School District strives to
  maintain high educational standards while remaining fiscally
  responsible, twice earning the highest rating from the Office of
  the Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts for its outstanding
  financial transparency; additionally, the district has received
  more than $1 million in grants to benefit students; and
         WHEREAS, DeSoto Independent School District has
  established a notable record of achievement, and the quality
  education that it provides is a credit to the community and to the
  entire Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby recognize May 1, 2013, as DeSoto Independent
  School District Day at the State Capitol and extend to all those
  in attendance sincere best wishes for an enjoyable visit to
  Austin; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the district as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
