Ariel Hernandez, Jr. |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of San Antonio in mourning the loss of Dr. Ariel |
|
Hernandez, Jr., who died recently; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ariel Hernandez, Jr., was born January 11, 1948, |
|
in Los Angeles, California; he grew up in communities around the |
|
world, including the City of San Antonio; he graduated from San |
|
Antonio's Jefferson High School and attended San Antonio |
|
College; he went on to attend The University of Texas at Austin |
|
before earning his medical degree from the University of Southern |
|
California Medical School; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret |
|
Alice, and the couple enjoyed 43 years of marriage; together, |
|
they raised seven children, and they were blessed with 11 |
|
grandchildren; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After Dr. Hernandez completed his internship and |
|
residency, he began his medical practice in San Jose, California, |
|
in 1977; he later moved to San Antonio, where he practiced for |
|
more than 20 years and dedicated his efforts to serving those |
|
most in need; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Hernandez was chosen to serve as the physician |
|
for Pope John Paul II on the occasion of the pontiff's 1987 visit |
|
to San Antonio; he served his community in a variety of ways and |
|
was the author of the guidelines for the hiring of employees for |
|
the City of San Antonio; he also played an important role in |
|
establishing medical care for the victims of Hurricane Katrina; |
|
and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a lifelong advocate of education and worked |
|
to instill in his family and in those he met the importance of |
|
pursuing excellence in all their endeavors; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gave unselfishly to others, and his wisdom, his generous spirit, |
|
and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest will not be |
|
forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be cherished |
|
forever by his family and countless friends; now, therefore, be |
|
it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
83rd Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the |
|
bereaved family of Dr. Ariel Hernandez, Jr.; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Dr. Ariel Hernandez, Jr. |
