SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 832
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
join the citizens of San Antonio in recognizing the San Antonio |
|
|
Scorpions and celebrating the beginning of the team's 2013 |
|
|
season; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Founded by Texas philanthropist Gordon Hartman, |
|
|
the Scorpions brought professional soccer to San Antonio when |
|
|
Mr. Hartman launched the franchise in 2012 as part of a plan to |
|
|
sustain Morgan's Wonderland, a theme park that was designed to |
|
|
accommodate guests with special needs; all of the net proceeds |
|
|
from the San Antonio Scorpions go toward the support of |
|
|
Morgan's Wonderland; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The San Antonio Scorpions franchise occupies a |
|
|
unique role in supporting Morgan's Wonderland, and the team's |
|
|
players have demonstrated an outstanding level of skill and |
|
|
athleticism from the outset; in April of 2012, the team played |
|
|
its first home game to a sold-out crowd of 13,151, and it later |
|
|
ended the year by winning the North American Soccer League |
|
|
regular-season championship; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Inspired by the uplifting life and positive |
|
|
outlook of 19-year-old Morgan Hartman, this extraordinary |
|
|
partnership bridges professional sports, philanthropy, and the |
|
|
special-needs community, and it represents the profound unity |
|
|
and success that can result when divergent entities come together |
|
|
for a common cause; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
|
Legislature, hereby commend the San Antonio Scorpions franchise |
|
|
and its founder, Gordon Hartman, on their outstanding success and |
|
|
their ongoing dedication to creating a better world for people |
|
|
with special needs; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
the team and Mr. Hartman as an expression of high esteem from the |
|
|
Texas Senate. |
