SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 850
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  Bannister Luther DeBerry
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of Bannister Luther DeBerry, who died
  November 10, 2011, at the age of 97; and
         WHEREAS, Luther DeBerry was born May 7, 1914, in Bogata,
  Texas; he married his wife of 63 years, the late Pauline Allen
  DeBerry, on Christmas Day in 1937, and the couple raised a
  daughter, Nancy, who was a source of much pride and joy; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. DeBerry earned a degree in civil engineering
  from The University of Texas at Austin in 1937 and soon began a
  long and productive career with the Texas Department of
  Transportation; he took a leave of absence to serve the nation
  with the United States Corps of Engineers and the United States
  Navy during World War II; and
         WHEREAS, After the war, Mr. DeBerry returned to state
  service and held a series of increasingly responsible positions,
  culminating in his being named State Highway Engineer in 1973; he
  received numerous accolades over the course of his career,
  including the Thomas H. McDonald Memorial Award, the George
  Bartlett Award, and induction into the Hall of Honor at the Texas
  Transportation Institute at Texas A&M University; and
         WHEREAS, He was a man of courage, generosity, and strength,
  and his wisdom, his dedication, and his enthusiasm for living
  each day to the fullest will not be forgotten by his family and
  friends; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of Bannister Luther DeBerry; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of Bannister Luther DeBerry.
