Edward Keith Averitte |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the |
|
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the loss of Edward Keith |
|
Averitte, who died April 14, 2013, at the age of 85; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Keith Averitte was born May 13, 1927, in Fort |
|
Worth; a graduate of R. L. Paschal High School, he served the |
|
nation with distinction in the United States Navy during World |
|
War II; after his military service, he earned bachelor's and |
|
master's degrees from Texas Christian University; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, He enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as an |
|
educator; he began his career at the Masonic Home and School, |
|
where he was a teacher and a coach; he went on to serve the Fort |
|
Worth Independent School District for 30 years as a teacher, |
|
coach, counselor, vice principal, and principal; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, After his retirement from the field of education, |
|
he entered the field of agriculture; he managed his family's |
|
farming interests and found fulfillment in an occupation that |
|
reflected his deep-seated love of the land; he was supported in |
|
all his endeavors by his late wife, Betty Ann, with whom he shared |
|
63 years of marriage; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Averitte was active in a variety of civic and |
|
philanthropic organizations, notably the Boy Scouts of |
|
America, for which he served more than 50 years; he established |
|
a nationally recognized training program for adult Scout |
|
leaders, and he was a recipient of the prestigious Silver |
|
Beaver Award; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Keith was also a member of Hemphill Heights |
|
Masonic Lodge 1164, the Moslah Temple, and the Texas State |
|
Teachers Association; he served as president of the Fort Worth |
|
Counselors Association and of his local Kiwanis Club, and he was |
|
lieutenant governor of the Texas-Oklahoma District of Kiwanis |
|
International; he was a Sunday school teacher and a ruling elder |
|
at Oak Hill Presbyterian Church before joining Saint Philip |
|
Presbyterian Church; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A man of courage, strength, and compassion, he |
|
gave generously to others, and his wisdom, warmth, and valued |
|
counsel will not be forgotten; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Keith Averitte was a devoted husband, father, and |
|
grandfather, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured |
|
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of Edward Keith Averitte; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of Keith Averitte. |
