SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 862
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
  recognize the Eastern Hills High School Junior Reserve Officers'
  Training Corps Battalion, also known as the Highlanders, which
  recently won the Grand Champion prize at the annual Fort Worth
  Independent School District Showdown in Cowtown drill meet; and
         WHEREAS, The Highlanders earned first, second, or third
  place in all seven male and female categories to secure the
  coveted Grand Champion award; and
         WHEREAS, Each year, this much-anticipated meet pits the
  competitive special teams from each school in the district
  against one another and evaluates their performance in drill,
  physical fitness, color guard, and academic challenge; and
         WHEREAS, In an impressive display of their precision
  skills and their collaborative abilities, the Eastern Hills
  corps members triumphed over their competitors, and their
  victory reinforces the battalion's proud 50-year tradition; and
         WHEREAS, Organized in 1962, the Highlander Battalion today
  consists of 141 highly trained corps members, encompassing 12
  percent of the school's overall enrollment; the Highlanders are
  led by retired Lieutenant Colonel Michael Keris of the United
  States Army; his battalion is an exemplary group of young
  scholars and future officers who have dedicated themselves to
  self-discipline, leadership, and patriotic duty, and they are
  indeed deserving of high praise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the Eastern Hills High School Junior
  Officers' Training Corps Highlanders for their recent triumph as
  Grand Champions at the Showdown in Cowtown drill meet; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the Highlanders as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
