SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 872

WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in joining the Gonzalez family as they celebrate the 90th birthday of Christina Galan Gonzalez on May 16, 2013; and

WHEREAS, This gracious lady was born in Eagle Pass in 1923 to Rodolfo Galan and Rita Tovar and was one of six siblings; she married Gilberto Gonzalez in March of 1944, and together the couple raised their three children in San Antonio; and

WHEREAS, A child of the Depression, Christina Galan Gonzalez understood the importance of sacrifice and frugality; she also took great comfort in her faith, and she instilled these same values in her offspring; and

WHEREAS, Known among her friends and family for her wisdom and her resolute character, this cherished matriarch determined early on that her children would have the education that she never had, and as a result, they and their children have prospered; and

WHEREAS, It is this devotion to the betterment of her family that makes Christina Galan Gonzalez such a remarkable woman; she has consistently placed the dreams and aspirations of others above her own, and it is her generosity and her steadfast nature that her family celebrate as they observe the day of her birth; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd Legislature, hereby pay tribute to Christina Galan Gonzalez, who is celebrating her 90th birthday on May 16, 2013; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
