SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 892
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program for its
  exemplary work in providing access to a post-secondary
  education; and
         WHEREAS, The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program was
  created in 2011 to assist outstanding students who are interested
  in the study of science, engineering, technology, design,
  marketing, and other related fields; and
         WHEREAS, One of the nation's largest scholarship programs,
  it is sponsored by the General Motors Foundation and has already
  assisted more than 2,000 students with some $13 million in
  funding; its recipients have a record of high academic
  achievement, a history of participation and leadership in
  community and school activities, and an interest in pursuing a
  career in the automotive industry or a related field; and
         WHEREAS, Providing access to a quality post-secondary
  education will further the goal of developing a capable and
  proficient workforce in the critical areas of mathematics,
  science, engineering, and related fields; developing talent in
  those important areas will benefit American manufacturing and
  help ensure the nation's success in the global economy; and
         WHEREAS, The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is truly
  deserving of recognition for the important effect it is having on
  the lives of its recipients and our nation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend the General Motors Foundation on its
  sponsorship of the Buick Achievers Scholarship Program and
  extend to scholarship recipients best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
