SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 976
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
recognize Ed Olson on the occasion of his 95th birthday; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This distinguished World War II veteran is well |
|
known for his wisdom and generosity of spirit, and he is a |
|
respected and admired citizen of Georgetown; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ed Olson was born May 16, 1918, to Swedish |
|
immigrants Anton and Anna Olson; he had moved from his family's |
|
farm between Hutto and Taylor to study business in San Antonio |
|
when he met Ruth Cleveland; they married in June of 1941 and |
|
enjoyed nearly 70 years of marriage together; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, At the onset of World War II, Mr. Olson enlisted |
|
in the United States Army Air Corps; after training to fly B-17 |
|
bombers, he was assigned to the 545th Bombardment Squadron, 384th |
|
Bombardment Group, 8th Air Force, and deployed to Europe, where |
|
he flew numerous missions over France and Germany; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A beloved and esteemed member of his community, |
|
he is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, and his |
|
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, hereby commend Ed Olson on his many achievements and |
|
extend to him best wishes for a memorable 95th birthday |
|
celebration; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
