SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 996
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize the Texas Christian University Community Scholars |
|
|
Program; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Community Scholars Program is a competitive |
|
|
scholarship program open to outstanding high school students who |
|
|
have achieved academic excellence and demonstrated leadership |
|
|
skills; as Community Scholars, students receive funding and |
|
|
support to help them become successful members of the Texas |
|
|
Christian University community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The program offers participants support and |
|
|
guidance through leadership programs and retreats, programming |
|
|
activities, student organizations, and individual advising; its |
|
|
students boast a college graduation rate of better than 90 |
|
|
percent; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Christian University Community Scholars |
|
|
Program is committed to the principle that all students, |
|
|
regardless of race or socioeconomic status, should have access to |
|
|
a quality education; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The program draws high-achieving, urban students |
|
|
from 11 high schools across the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex; these |
|
|
exceptional students have had a profound impact on the campus, |
|
|
bringing diversity and helping the institution fulfill its mission |
|
|
of being a world-class, values-centered university; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Texas Christian University Community Scholars |
|
|
Program has made a difference in the lives of students across the |
|
|
region, and it is truly deserving of recognition for its many |
|
|
successes; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby commend the administrators and |
|
|
scholarship recipients of the Texas Christian University |
|
|
Community Scholars Program and extend to them best wishes for |
|
|
continued success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|
|
honor of this exemplary program. |
