SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 998
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  recognize Kenneth Lott, who is retiring from his position as
  mayor of Sweeny after many years of exemplary public service; and
 
         WHEREAS, Mayor Lott began his career in public service as a
  member of the Sweeny City Council in 1964; he assumed the
  position of city manager in 1966 and served with distinction
  until 1991; he was elected mayor in 2010; and
 
         WHEREAS, He is a veteran of the United States Army and was
  serving on the front lines in Korea when the war ended in 1953;
  he left military service with the rank of sergeant; and
 
         WHEREAS, In addition to his work as a council member, city
  manager, and mayor, he served the community as a hospice chaplain
  and as a member of a variety of civic and philanthropic
  organizations; and
 
         WHEREAS, An exemplary public servant, he is respected and
  admired by colleagues and citizens alike, and his presence as
  mayor of Sweeny will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
 
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby commend Kenneth Lott on his exceptional
  service as the mayor of Sweeny and extend to him best wishes for
  continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further
 
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
