SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1014
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |
|
|
recognize His Excellency Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Oyo State, |
|
|
Nigeria, and his wife, Florence Ajimobi, on the occasion of their |
|
|
2013 visit to the Texas State Capitol; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, These honored guests and their delegation have |
|
|
traveled from Nigeria, a majestic and bountiful country in Africa |
|
|
that has been a longtime friend to the United States; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ajimobi is governor of Oyo State, which is |
|
|
home to six million people; Oyo State is the 14th-largest state |
|
|
in Nigeria, and it is located in the southwestern portion of the |
|
|
country; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The country of Nigeria has a population of more than |
|
|
120 million people and, like Texas, is a large producer of oil and |
|
|
has a rich cultural heritage that is renowned worldwide; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Nigeria and the State of Texas have strong ties |
|
|
that are based on shared values and a mutual interest in |
|
|
fostering economic growth, regional stability, and good |
|
|
governance; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Like the State of Texas, Nigeria is a place of |
|
|
magnificent landscapes, diverse industry, and welcoming people; |
|
|
its citizens, like the people of Texas, wish for a prosperous and |
|
|
peaceful future for their children, and the citizens of the State |
|
|
of Texas are indeed honored to host this illustrious delegation; |
|
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, |
|
|
83rd Legislature, hereby welcome Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his |
|
|
wife, Florence Ajimobi, of Oyo State, Nigeria, commend them on |
|
|
their efforts to strengthen the ties between our countries, and |
|
|
extend to them sincere best wishes for all their future |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
|
them as an expression of highest regard from the Texas Senate. |
