SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1016

John P. Nieman |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and |
|
commemorates the life of John P. Nieman, who died April 26, 2013, |
|
at the age of 87; and |
|
WHEREAS, A man of sterling character, John Nieman was a |
|
native of Austin and the son of the late John and Betty Nieman; as |
|
a young man, he attended Austin High School and graduated from |
|
The University of Texas; and |
|
WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Nieman served in the |
|
United States Army Air Corps; he also served his country in the |
|
Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force; and |
|
WHEREAS, In 1953, he started his highly successful career |
|
in the insurance business and became a partner in the firm of |
|
Nieman Hanks and Puryear; he and his wife, Rosie, had a full and |
|
rewarding life in Austin, where John supported numerous civic and |
|
philanthropic organizations; and |
|
WHEREAS, A leading Austin citizen, Mr. Nieman gave |
|
generously of his time and energy to such organizations as the |
|
Austin Junior Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society, |
|
the Counseling and Pastoral Care Center of Austin, and Recording |
|
for the Blind; he was a life member of the Downtown Austin Rotary |
|
Club and an active member of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, This exemplary gentleman will be remembered as a |
|
devoted father and a man of many interests who loved astronomy |
|
and photography, collecting antique barbed wire, and gardening |
|
with his beloved Rosie; he leaves behind memories that will long |
|
be cherished by his children, Paul and Nancy, by his |
|
grandchildren, and by the many others who knew and loved him; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd |
|
Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved |
|
family of John P. Nieman; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas |
|
Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in |
|
memory of John Nieman. |
