SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1016
 
 
  In Memory
  of
  John P. Nieman
 
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas honors and
  commemorates the life of John P. Nieman, who died April 26, 2013,
  at the age of 87; and
         WHEREAS, A man of sterling character, John Nieman was a
  native of Austin and the son of the late John and Betty Nieman; as
  a young man, he attended Austin High School and graduated from
  The University of Texas; and
         WHEREAS, During World War II, Mr. Nieman served in the
  United States Army Air Corps; he also served his country in the
  Korean War as a member of the United States Air Force; and
         WHEREAS, In 1953, he started his highly successful career
  in the insurance business and became a partner in the firm of
  Nieman Hanks and Puryear; he and his wife, Rosie, had a full and
  rewarding life in Austin, where John supported numerous civic and
  philanthropic organizations; and
         WHEREAS, A leading Austin citizen, Mr. Nieman gave
  generously of his time and energy to such organizations as the
  Austin Junior Chamber of Commerce, the American Cancer Society,
  the Counseling and Pastoral Care Center of Austin, and Recording
  for the Blind; he was a life member of the Downtown Austin Rotary
  Club and an active member of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church;
  and
         WHEREAS, This exemplary gentleman will be remembered as a
  devoted father and a man of many interests who loved astronomy
  and photography, collecting antique barbed wire, and gardening
  with his beloved Rosie; he leaves behind memories that will long
  be cherished by his children, Paul and Nancy, by his
  grandchildren, and by the many others who knew and loved him;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
  Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved
  family of John P. Nieman; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas
  Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in
  memory of John Nieman.
