SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1036
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Children's Medical Center on the occasion of its
  centennial anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Children's Medical Center can trace its roots to
an open-air clinic that was created in 1913, when dehydration,
malnutrition, and other maladies were responsible for serious
illnesses and mortality among children; it has grown from the
open-air clinic known as a "baby camp" to become one of the
world's foremost pediatric care facilities; and
WHEREAS, The center serves all children, regardless of
their families' ability to pay, and it does so without tax
support; the center consists of two main campuses in Dallas and
Plano, along with several specialty clinics and a network of
MyChildren's Pediatric Practice primary care offices, which last
year provided service to almost 100,000 children; and
WHEREAS, Ranked among the top children's hospitals in the
country by U.S. News and World Report, the center is the nation's
fifth-largest pediatric health care provider and is the only such
facility in the nation to earn seven disease-specific
certifications from the Joint Commission, as well as Magnet
  Recognition for nursing excellence; and
WHEREAS, The center is a leader in research with its
partner, The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center,
and each year, Children's Medical Center produces a report
detailing the levels of health and wellness of children across
Dallas County and beyond; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 83rd
Legislature, hereby commend Children's Medical Center on its
outstanding medical services and facilities and extend to its
staff and volunteers congratulations on the center's 100th
  anniversary; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
Children's Medical Center as an expression of esteem from the
  Texas Senate.
