SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 1087
         WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
  join the citizens of Southlake in celebrating the recent
  groundbreaking at the Texas Rangers Miracle League Field in
  Southlake; and
         WHEREAS, This exciting development will provide an
  opportunity for hundreds of special-needs children and young
  adults in the community to play baseball; the field is expected
  to open in 2014; and
         WHEREAS, The Miracle League is an organization of baseball
  teams that makes it possible for every child to play ball,
  regardless of his or her mental or physical abilities; and
         WHEREAS, Miracle League Southlake has spearheaded the
  effort to build a field in the city, and league president Phillip
  Meyer has overseen a fund-raising effort that has succeeded in
  raising $220,000 in donations to pay back the city's construction
  cost for the field; and
         WHEREAS, The City of Southlake, under the inspired
  leadership of Mayor John Terrell, is matching each donation; the
  field will be constructed with artificial turf that supports
  wheelchairs and walkers; it is the second such field in the
  Metroplex; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has been
  working with the Miracle League since 2005; foundation president
  Jim Sundberg has played an instrumental role in the foundation's
  support of Miracle League Southlake, and the foundation has
  contributed $100,000 for 10-year naming rights to the new field;
  and
         WHEREAS, For young people with disabilities or limited
  abilities, participation in Miracle League provides a positive
  social outlet and an empowering set of physical and mental
  challenges; Miracle League baseball has helped players develop
  their communications skills, and it is an enjoyable and inspiring
  activity for players and volunteers alike; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
  83rd Legislature, hereby commend the City of Southlake, the
  Miracle League of Southlake, and the Texas Rangers Baseball
  Foundation on the groundbreaking of a new baseball field for
  special-needs youth; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
  honor of the Texas Rangers Miracle League Field in Southlake.
