TO: | Honorable Dan Branch, Chair, House Committee On Higher Education |
FROM: | Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board |
IN RE: | HB82 by McClendon (Relating to a single common course numbering system for public institutions of higher education in this state.), As Introduced |
The bill would require that each institution adopt a core curriculum of not less than 42 semester credit hours and be consistent with the single common course numbering system approved by the board. By June 1, 2014, the board shall approve a single common numbering system and establish a timetable that requires institutions of higher education to phase in the inclusion of the applicable course numbers from the common course numbering system in their individual course listings and course numbering systems for all courses offered for the 2018-2019 academic year and subsequent years.
Based on the LBB’s analysis of responses by a sample of public university systems and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished using existing resources.
