LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 29, 2013

TO:
Honorable Tryon D. Lewis, Chair, House Committee on Judiciary & Civil Jurisprudence

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB154 by Taylor, Van (Relating to the termination of the parent-child relationship and the duty to pay child support in circumstances involving mistaken paternity.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Family Code to allow the termination of a child support order based on the results of genetic testing that excludes the obligor as the child’s genetic father. The bill would result in revision of policies and procedures within the child support program at the Office of the Attorney General (OAG); however, it is anticipated that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
