No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Code of Criminal Procedure as it relates to a pre-trial hearing in certain criminal cases. The Office of Court Administration does not anticipate any significant fiscal impact to the court system resulting from the bill. The change in law would apply only to criminal cases in which the indictment or information is presented to the court before the bill's effective date. The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.

Local Government Impact

Counties reported that there would be no significant impact associated with the bill. While cases involving pre-trial hearings could be significantly more costly, counties do not anticipate a substantial number of defendants requesting pre-trial hearings and hence do not anticipate a significant fiscal impact.
