LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 10, 2013

TO:
Honorable Dan Patrick, Chair, Senate Committee on Education

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB274 by Alvarado (Relating to reporting requirements related to school districts that obtain exceptions from class size limits.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require school districts that were granted an exception to required class sizes for a campus to report to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) the number of students in the largest class for each affected grade level at that campus.

Based on the analysis of TEA, the duties and responsibilities associated with implementing the provisions of the bill could be accomplished by utilizing existing resources.

Local Government Impact

There would be some administrative costs to school districts that applied for a classroom waiver to collect and report the additional information required. These additional administrative costs would affect only school districts that requested class size waivers.
