IN RE: | HB289 by Zedler (Relating to the authority of the attorney general to investigate election-related offenses.), As Introduced |
The bill would amend the Election Code to require registrars to submit an affidavit stating relevant facts to the local prosecuting attorney and the attorney general if the registrar determines that a person who is not a registered voter voted in an election. The bill would also allow for two or more registered voters to present affidavits alleging criminal conduct in connection with the election either to the local prosecuting attorney or to the attorney general. The bill would require for the attorney receiving the affidavits to investigate the allegations.
The Office of the Attorney General indicated that any costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's existing resources.
