LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

March 15, 2013

TO:
Honorable Gary Elkins, Chair, House Committee On Technology

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB335 by Stickland (Relating to the posting of required notice on a political subdivision's Internet website.), As Introduced

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would add Subchapter E to Chapter 2051 of the Government Code to authorize a political subdivision to post a notice on its Internet website continuously from the earliest date required until the day after the action was required instead of in a newspaper.

Local Government Impact

There could be a significant savings to a political subdivision that posted required notices on its website instead of in a newspaper. There could also be costs for technology, trained staff and staff time to post continuous notices. Those amounts would be offset and would vary depending on various factors, including the size of the political subdivision and the number of required notices that were no longer being published in a newspaper.
