No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Civil Practice and Remedies Code, regarding compensation to persons wrongfully imprisoned. Section 103.001(d), which makes a wrongfully imprisoned person eligible to obtain and purchase group health benefit plan coverage through the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, would be amended to extend that eligibility to the person's spouse or other dependent. The bill would entitle all claimants eligible for compensation under the bill's provisions regardless of their date of eligibility. The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.
