LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 15, 2013

TO:
Honorable Jane Nelson, Chair, Senate Committee on Health & Human Services

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB424 by Burkett (Relating to the sex offender status of a person who becomes a resident of certain group home facilities.), As Engrossed

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the director of a group home to determine whether a person either
requesting to live or assigned to live at a group home, or a person currently residing in a group home, is registered as sex offender under Chapter 62, Code of Criminal Procedure, using a website maintained by the Department of Public Safety. The bill would require that current residents of the group home and their legal guardians, if applicable, be notified if the person is found to be a sex offender.

The Department of Aging and Disability Services does not anticipate any significant fiscal impact
as a result of complying with the provisions of the bill.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
