LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOARD
Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

May 15, 2013

TO:
Honorable Joe Straus, Speaker of the House, House of Representatives

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB617 by Rodriguez, Eddie (Relating to transition and employment services for public school students enrolled in special education programs. ), As Passed 2nd House

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would require the Texas Education Agency to develop a transition and employment guide for students enrolled in special education programs and their parents.

The Texas Education Agency indicates that any cost associated with the bill could be absorbed within the agency's federal funds for special education services.

Local Government Impact

The bill would require school districts and shared services arrangements to designate at least one employee to serve as the designee on transition and employment services for students enrolled in special education programs. School districts might be required to hire additional staff to comply with this requirement.
