Honorable Brandon Creighton, Chair, House Committee On Federalism & Fiscal Responsibility, Select
FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board
IN RE:
HB627 by Krause (Relating to exempting the intrastate manufacture of a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from federal regulation.), As Introduced
No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.
The bill would amend the Business and Commerce Code and exempt the intrastate manufacture of a firearm, a firearm accessory, or ammunition from federal law or federal regulation, including registration. The bill would require the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) to defend a Texas citizen whom the federal government attempts to prosecute for violation of federal law, and upon written notification by a resident of the State, require the OAG to seek a declaratory judgment from a federal district court. The OAG indicates that any additional costs associated with the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.
Local Government Impact
No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
