March 19, 2013

TO:
Honorable Joseph Pickett, Chair, House Committee On Homeland Security & Public Safety

IN RE:
HB698 by Springer (Relating to the use of digital or electronic fingerprinting for an application for a license to carry a concealed handgun.), As Introduced

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Government Code to require applicants seeking a Concealed Handgun License to submit their fingerprints digitally if a facility with the capability to process those fingerprints digitally exists within a 25-mile radius of the applicant's residence address.  It is assumed the costs of implementing the provisions of the bill could be absorbed within existing resources.  The bill would take effect September 1, 2013.

Local Government Impact

No significant fiscal implication to units of local government is anticipated.
