IN RE:
HB710 by Callegari (relating to the use by a peace officer of the officer's rank or status to advertise or promote certain private businesses.), Committee Report 1st House, Substituted

No significant fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would add a section to the Occupations Code proscribing the use of a peace officer's rank or status as a peace officer to advertise or promote certain private businesses in which the peace officer has an ownership, management, contract, or employee interest. The bill would stipulate that a peace officer who violates this section is subject to disciplinary action by the Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Education.  It is assumed that implementing the provisions of the bill can be absorbed within agency appropriations.  The bill would take effect on September 1, 2013.
