Austin, Texas

FISCAL NOTE, 83RD LEGISLATIVE REGULAR SESSION

April 18, 2013

TO:
Honorable Juan Hinojosa, Chair, Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Relations

FROM:
Ursula Parks, Director, Legislative Budget Board

IN RE:
HB712 by Murphy (Relating to the responsibility for keeping fire-fighting equipment furnished to a volunteer fire department by a county in good working order.), As Engrossed

No fiscal implication to the State is anticipated.

The bill would amend the Local Government Code to require a petitioner to keep a volunteer fire department's fire-fighting equipment in good working order and provide labor and materials for repairs. Under current statute, the county is required to maintain the equipment.

Local Government Impact

There could be a savings to a county that would no longer be required to maintain a volunteer fire department's fire-fighting equipment. Those amounts would vary depending on numerous factors including, but not limited to, the size and number of volunteer fire departments; the quantity and age of the equipment; and the number and cost of repairs and replacements.

Bexar County reported no fiscal impact is anticipated.

Dallas County reported no significant fiscal impact is anticipated.
